With the most recent census showing a population of approximately 79,438 people, the 81st House District extends north through Virginia Beach to Laskin Road, south to the North Carolina and west to edge of the Great Dismal Swamp in Chesapeake.
The 81st District is the largest geographical district in Southside Hampton Roads.
The 81st District encompasses 10 voting precincts in Virginia Beach with 28,194 registered voters (56.55%) and 9 in the City of Chesapeake with 21,666 voters (43.45%).
Places of Interest in the 81st District
The Virginia Beach Convention Center, Naval Air Station Oceana, Dam Neck Naval Base, False Cape State Park, Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Cavalier Wildlife Management Area, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, the Northwest River Park, the Princess Anne Wildlife Management Area, the Chesapeake Regional Airport, and the Virginia National Guard Post at Camp Pendleton are all located in the 81st District.
The City of Virginia Beach, the United States Navy, Ocean Breeze/Motor World Amusement Park, Dominion Power, Virginia Beach Public Schools, Chesapeake Public Schools and agribusiness are among the largest employers in the 81st District.
Military Aviation Museum
Located on Princess Anne Road just south of Pungo, the Military Aviation Museum has one of the largest collections of antique warplanes in the country. Not only are most of the aircraft still preserved in airworthy condition, there is also a large display of vehicles, military equipment and a captured German V-1 “Buzz Bomb” on display.
